I really believe Ringo was sent here by God on a mission! Ringo was saved by my neighbors Jo and Ted and was not my dog. Since he was going to be killed at a shelter in CA, they drove all the way there to save him. No one in big cities want cattle dogs. This little dog would come to visit me and I did not know where his real home was.Little by little he started staying at my house longer and longer. My wolf Miacota lost her two companions, Nanook and Alabama, a short time before from cancer and old age. She was very depressed. It seemed Ringo came to see her more than us. Over time he spent all day here and left at night time. When he grabbed his food bowl and toys, I knew he came to stay! Of course I took him in but he could leave whenever he wanted. He filled a very empty hole in our hearts. Miacota would pal around with him 24/7. She did her best to keep up with him but when she got tired, he would bring her into the house and lay with her until she was asleep then sneak away to do his work. He had to care for horses giving a bark at each pen until the horse came over to see him and even give him a sniff. No dog or coyote would dare come on his land or near his babies or he would kick their butts right off.
He was amazing and never did anything wrong of any kind. He was here for a reason and we all knew it. He hung with me no matter where I went and we became best friends; he was truly my sidekick.
Shortly, my neighbor asked if I ever saw a little red haired speckled dog around and he told me his story. I was shocked and knew his name was Ringo from his tag. I told Ted I stole his dog and explained it. Ted said they knew he was ok but he would drop by to get a treat and then off he would go. They tell the story of the little dog they saved but who decided on his own where he was needed and belonged.
After a year and half we found out he had terminal cancer. It seemed as though God had sent him to us to help us get over our loss and to show us that life goes on. He taught me to never give up no matter how bad it gets or hurts. I get close sometimes but he comes in my dreams to remind me.
He passed away on Memorial Day 2010. We were going to put him down the next day because of the pain. But Ringo picked HIS time as he always did. As I was carrying him to a chair to sit and hold him, his big orange eyes looked up at me to say goodbye and turned a most beautiful glowing color of red I have ever seen in my life and then he closed them. God had called his angel home!! Thank you Ringo for all you gave to us!!!
